Two weeks ago, I began to play spades competitively with my regular bridge partner. His friend developed an elegant platform through Discord to play competitively against other members (the link is here). I had not played the game in several years, let alone seriously.
Each table is assigned a unique URL, and hands can be recalled after play for reflection as a text file. We typically play to 250 points, but this can be toggled with on the admin side.
One interesting thing about spades is its similarity in techniques/strategies to bridge. If often pays to be slightly aggressive, and effective bidding and play is based on assessing the risk/reward of various options.
What is less clear (and a subject of some casual research on my end) is exactly what strategies are effective, and how often. Hopefully after some more hands I will have a better understanding. In the meantime, it's time to play!
